Are We Really Different?

I saw the below video in one the Turkish blogs that I am following and wanted to share it here as well. The description on YouTube says it was a class project and there is no other information. I think it is a pretty good video which shows the similarities between nations with some stills. There are not anything specific to Turkish except the writing on the notebook in the opening and closing scenes. It means: “It is time to hit the road”.

April 23: Children’s Day

Today is celebrated as “National Sovereignty and Children’s Day” in Turkey. Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, devoted this day (in 1920) on which the Turkish Parliament was opened to the children of the world. In celebration of this day, Google is displaying a special doodle on the Turkish domain (http://www.google.com.tr). This was a result of an initiative called GoogleBizeLogoYapsana which translates in to “Google Design a Doodle for us”. The initiative’s original plan was to attract Google’s attention with doodle’s designed by the Turkish community and have one displayed on the Google homepage. Although, this just happened for the Google TR domain and doodle design is not one submitted by the community it can still be seen as a success.

Happy New Year

End of 2006 marked slow blogging days for this blog. However, this would not prevent me from wishing a happy new year for everyone.

I hope the new year brings us happiness and health. That’s all I want. The rest is easier when we have those.

See you next year with more of my exciting blogging.

Waiting for Your Muse

The above image that I stole from Creating Passionate Users’ post suggesting not waiting for the muse to get work done, perfectly illustrates the situation.

It is hard to deny that there are times that I wait for the muse to come to start getting work done. The waiting game gets worse when there are lots of things to get done and the stress is trying to kill the creativity. However, that stubborn muse insist on not coming at those times. It just does not come by itself without any real invitation and turns out waiting is not a real invitation.

Orhan Pamuk Wins Nobel Prize

Orhan Pamuk, a Turkish novelist, won the Nobel prize for literature. You can check out the Google News coverage about this. This is the first time a Nobel prize was awarded to a Turkish novelist. This is great news especially since I really like his work and writing style. He is a controversial person from a political stand point but he is one of the most valuable intellectuals to come out of Turkey.

If you are curios, here is a link to some of his works available on Amazon. I have read and enjoyed Snow, My Name is Red, The New Life that are on that list. The New Life must be the first work of his that I have read. I was currently reading Istanbul: Memories and the City.
