Gmail-Google Reader Integration with Greasemonkey

We knew persistent.info with his popular Greasemonkey scripts for Gmail like Conversation Preview Bubbles, Gmail Macros and Label Colors. He does it again for integrating Gmail with Google Reader which was highly anticipated from Google since now Yahoo Mail beta and the upcoming Outlook 2007 has tight RSS integration with email.

The greasemonkey script adds a link called “Feeds” to the Gmail left sidebar which gives access to the list view of Google Reader feeds right inside Gmail. I have been trying the script for the last couple of days and it is working perfectly. Sometimes it is better to read the feeds in the Google Reader using the full view of feeds but this integration makes it pretty easy to quickly check the feeds.

One nice extension to the script could be an option of having certain labels to appear in the list view. There are some feeds that I would like to be notified about more often than others. At the moment, Google Reader is missing a notification mechanism that is I need to login to see if there are updated feeds and this script fills this hole in a way since one probably checks email more often than feeds.

One Response to “Gmail-Google Reader Integration with Greasemonkey”

  1. Inspired by Mihai’s original, I wrote a new version of the script that included several new features:

    1. Spilt-window view of Gmail and Reader on a single page
    2. Links to collapse|expand either Gmail or Reader
    3. Integrated Reader uses start-page as specified in Reader’s “Settings”
    4. Labels selector
    5. Key ‘v’ to open Reader links in a new Window
    6. Automatic resize of Gmail and Reader views

Please feel free to comment on my Gmail Reader Integrator

    Thank you.
