I am surprised it took me that long to find a pretty decent alternative PDF reader to replace Adobe Acrobat Reader. I often find myself frustrated with the bloatness of the Adobe reader even on my decent laptop. As Adobe announced their new Adobe Acrobat 8 product, I was switching to a more light-weight Foxit Reader.
Foxit Reader is a decent PDF viewer which feels very light and does not eat up much system resources. They recently came up with the 2.0 version. One nice thing that I liked about Foxit Reader is that it has a version which does not require any installation. You just click on the exe and go.
In addition to basic PDF viewing capabilities, the free version of the reader comes with editing features, like highlighting text in the PDF document which are present
only in the professional version of the Acrobat. The free version of Foxit Reader lets you use those features but put a mark on the document that you see in the picture. This is gone if you buy the Foxit Reader Professioal license. For my purposes, this small mark on the papers that I edit does not really matter.
You can download the exe version in a zip file here.
