Insomnia Radio Live Webcast

IR:Live

Insomnia Radio is organizing an amazing concert featuring The Thieves, Chance & the Choir, and The Recliner in San Francisco. I wish I was there to go to that show to listen to those amazing bands. For those of us who live far away from San Francisco, Jason will be streaming the show live right from the stage. Click on the image to see the details about the show.

You may search Insomnia Radio to find and listen to episodes featuring music from those bands.

UPDATE: IR #67 is featuring two songs from the bands that will be on stage on March 1st. Check it out.
UPTADE 2: Because of internet connection problem the webcast did not happen unfortunately. But seems like it was a killer show. Can’t wait to hear the mp3 of the show.

What is Origami Project?

So, what is that Origami Project? According to Scoble, it is a device. Microsoft seems to like that viral marketing acts a lot lately. They create a teaser website and try to create a buzz around the product.
Engadget seems to have a tip about what Origami Project is and have some pictures which may not of course be the real thing. It is rumored that the device is potentially a portable media center. One potentially interesting thing is that a stylus is seen in the images which suggests that the device has a touch screen. If this is the case, this will be the first touch screen portable media player in the market.

The mystery will be revealed on March 2nd as the flash teaser on the Origami Project website suggests.

Google Page Creator

Google Pages Logo I just read at Techcrunch about the release of Google Pages. It looks like a web based FrontPage. The interface and the color choices are based on GMail. It is of course Ajax heavy. One can upload 100 MB of files and images as well. One important note is that there is no domain forwarding or anything like that. Whatever you create there stays there which makes it very difficult for techie users to stick to it, in my opinion. Like the review on Techcrunch notes I am not sure who the target user group is. I used get excited about Google products but they seem to be releasing too many things and they are branched out in many directions. I am having trouble understanding their strategy. I would love to get a snapshot of what they are thinking in a broader scope. How does their "big picture" look like? Are they getting lost in the small details and forgetting about the pieces of the big picture? I would doubt that, but are they? google, ajax, frontpage

Lecture Podcasts

It seems like universities are picking up on podcasting. I had blogged about Vanderbilt News Podcast here before. Today I read on Digg that Berkeley, MIT and Harvard publish some lectures as podcasts. It is interesting to see how technology changes even how the academic content is delivered and reaching to a much broader audience. Probably the next step will be videocasts of courses but I am not sure how far they can go with that since the video totally takes someone to a class. I remember MIT was streaming some of the courses to the public.

I am curious if Vanderbilt will also do something similar and extend its podcasting outreach from university news to classes.

Using Skype for Toll Free Calls

Skype Logo I forgot to mention in my previous post that I made the toll free call to the Amazon customer service using Skype. Recently, Skype has started supporting toll free calls in limited number of countries. This was the first time I had a chance to try it. If I had called from my cell phone the toll free call would not be free at all. I stayed on the line for about 25 minutes and it turned out truly toll free thanks to Skype.
