EPIC 2014

Scoble posted about EPIC 2014 the other day and I downloaded a local copy of the flash movie. It is basically a movie which portrays a vision where Google buys Tivo, and joins forces with Amazon to unveil Googlezon. Basically a vision where Google takes over the world. It is very interesting how we think about media and access to it is changing in high pace recently and EPIC 2014 takes this change and moves several steps further. I have to admit, I felt a little bit scared because of the narration as it was very much like from a futuristic movie where a voice narrates how an evil company takes over the world. This is how I feel when I hear that type of narration. It is very professional despite the fact that the video is home brew. There is another thing that made this very interesting for me, especially. Below is the picture you see when the video starts:

Epic Intro

The person in the background is Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic. This is great, but why? I am really curios to learn what the reason of this choice is. I didn’t see a Turkish name in the credits section of the movie. So, who decided to put it there? If anyone knows anything about this, I will appreciate a comment.

UPDATE: After talking to a friend about this, I thought I wrote too confident about the picture being Ataturk. I am going to say it resembles to Ataturk very much. Well, in the scope of EPIC it is not that important but still I found it interesting. My friend said Churchill may have a similar photo. He also said that we looked at pictures of Ataturk so much that any similar picture looks like his.

  1. It’s not Ataturk — it’s some media pioneer… Alexander Graham Bell, maybe? I actually don’t remember.

I kinda wish it was Ataturk, though…

  2. Thanks for the clarification, Robin. The resemblance is striking, well, may be just to me:) It would be nice it he were him since he had a vision of his time but it would not make sense in the media case.

You say you kinda wish it was him. Do you know some about him?
