Received Filangy Invite

Last night I received a Filangy invite from Justin Lilly. I thank him very much for sending me an invite. I was not expecting to receive an invite in response to my blog post that soon. I am going to be writing a first impression review of my own very soon.

What is more amazing is that I just got an email from Mark Jen asking if I am still looking for an invite. This makes me more amazed by the blogosphere. With the way things are currently, you do not need to have a blog taking too much traffic. Your posts may be found by anyone at anytime thanks to services like Technorati

Oscar Night

Oscar broadcast is now on ABC. Chris Rock is rocking the stage. Seems like it is going to be fun watching him even though there aren’t many spectacular movies like LOR like last year.

Just two Oscars were given and most noticeable one was the Best Supporting Actor. Morgan Freeman won the Oscar for his role in Million Dollar Baby.

Filangy Invite

I recently heard about Filangy and it sounded interesting. I have a thing for new services, I want to try things that I find interesting immediately. I cannot wait until it goes public. So, I will appreciate if someone out there with an invite could send me one at turkerkeskinpala at gmail dot com. I am planning to share my first impressions here.

Microsoft Recalls XBOX Power Cords

It is being reported that Microsoft is recalling millions of power cords of the XBOX game console. The recall effects the consoles manufactured before October 23, 2003 (This date is for US. The date for Europe is Jan. 13, 2004). New power cords can be ordered from xbox.com for free. You will need the serial number of your console during the order so that it can be determined if you need a replacement. I have not checked mine yet, but will definitely check tonight.

Prelims Around the Corner

Yeah, it is the time to take the prelims. My prelim exam will be on March 18th. It is going to be in oral format and will last for two hours. There are three examiners from three areas. The areas that I am going to take the exam from are: Real Time Systems, Signals and Systems and Electronics. I have one month to study. I am hoping I will be able refresh my knowledge on these areas quickly. Wish me luck!

Google Toolbar Autolink Feature

Steve Rubel reports about the new Autolink feature employed in the new version of the Google Toolbar. The new Autolink feature turns non-linked content on Web sites into hotlinks back to Google properties and other sites. Rubel points to the resemblance of the feature to Microsoft’s smart tags which cause quite a discussion couple of years ago. Microsoft could not have implemented the feature.

I think, Rubel raises a very important point here: How can Google get away with Microsoft Couldn’t? He says:

They shouldn’t get away with what Microsoft was unable to. It’s not fair and it shows that no matter what Google does, they can do no wrong in the eyes of the American public – at least for now.

At the moment, most people trust in Google. This is very interesting. Google is a software company but they are in service business. I think this is an advantage of being in service business if it is done right. If you satisfy your customers with the service not many people think about some consequences of some services. Add to that the image of Google as being a company that employs a lot of smart people.

Does Google have evil plans? Whatever their plans are, and how good their services are there has to a standard on rules and one company should not get away with something that the other could not.
